Less Tox, More Vitality: A Beginners guide on how to go low tox

Where will your low tox journey start?

It’s going on over 10 years that I’ve been on a low tox journey.

I remember my son being 3 and wiping his lip with a detergent wipe and burning the top of his lip.

I remember sneezing with hay fever constantly through spring.

I remember not understanding why I had such nasty headaches after being at event where candles surrounded us.

Going chemical free transforms your wellness

After going #chemicalfree I did have a period of time when I ditched the toxins and my body just could not handle being around heavy chemical smells, I took my own soaps with me everywhere and I just couldn’t handle candles…

Perhaps I was a bit of a #chemicalfreefreak, perhaps I was just trying to get better in my health, because I’d had so many years of feeling so unwell from chemicals when I got rid of them I really just desired to maintain that feeling of vitality.

Reducing toxins makes you intolerant to harsh chemicals

Whatever the case now, I’m a lot more accepting of other people’s choices and less judgemental. Despite this my body still reacts to strong perfumes, washing liquid smells and I cannot tolerate candles.

I find it hard to tolerate the fragrances of these, but I’m also fully aware of what is in them. Knowing what is in something and not doing anything about it, in my mind is ridiculous. When we know better we do better – to know and yet to make no change is a reflection of who we are and our desire to change and transform our wellbeing.

What is the chemical cocktail effect?

Living a life where you reduce the tox means looking after your overall health and increasing your energy and vibration. Harsh chemicals in all sorts of products affect the way that you feel and add to this chemical cocktail effect. That is when we may only use small amounts of harmful products and our body reacts to the overall effect of lots of small amounts all mounting up into one big amount.

What is Greenwashing?

In the supermarket and online we also need to be well aware of greenwashing where products that appear green, or eco friendly (look out for these kind of catch words) are anything but. Again read the ingredients so you know the actual products and not simply the marketing jargon that is on the packaging.

So we know better and it’s now time to make changes.

Here are my 3 tips to going low tox

  1. Read what is in all the products you use. Make a start… Doesn’t have to be swapping out all your products at once. It can be one at a time. Here is the thing though, if you know that what you are using is toxic, why would you persist using it? Why not learn about better, healthier, cleaner ingredients that you can simply and effectively swap. For anyone saying this is going to be expensive this is simply not true. If you think it will be expensive it probably will. However in reality, many people who have done this before have done it simply and easily and without breakign the bank.
  2. Reducing toxins is not hard. Things you can do easily are: 1. DIY your own inexpensive products. 2. If your mindset just cannot shift to using less toxic products, then perhaps reflecting on how bad the ingredients you are using will help with a reality check. Knowing everyday supermarket deodorants are full of endocrine disruptors, or soaps and detergents are full of nasty products that exacerbate allergies. Again knowing better means that we most certainly need to make changes to what we use.
  3. You are in control of what you use and what you allow in your house. While we cannot control what other people use, we have the capacity to control and make changes to what we use. We control what comes into our homes and what we put on our bodies. Saying no to candles, perfume, and other products what people gift is, or our spouse picks up, means saying yes to products that will be so much better for us. Saying no means realising that this is important and it 100% will mean an Improvement in our own and our family’s health.

Why are essential oils a great choice for reducing your toxic load?

I want to make a quick point about essential oils at this point. Oils are my jam. I have been using them for over 10 years and using them took me on this low toxin journey. I use them for health and healing. Oils raise our vibration and in a world where health isn’t always optimal they help to support the ecosystem of our bodies. But as with many products, not all oils are created equally. If you would like to hear what oils I choose to use, reach out and I’ll fill you in.

A final word about reducing the tox

Living life with more vitality, a less toxic life means taking the step into making changes to what you put on your body, to what you spray on, clean with, to your make up and a range of other areas of life.

Doesn’t have to be perfect. Just take a step

I want to encourage you that if this is overwhelming to let go of perfectionism in this area and to make changes one product at a time. Once you do this, you will start to realise that you have made many, many little changes that all add up. These changes help to shift the way you feel and raise your vibration and this is so worth it.
